The Club is one of the oldest yacht
clubs in the British Isles, having been formed in 1772. However, it
is now a thoroughly modern, informal family club devoted to the pursuit
of small boat sailing. We moved out of the village of Starcross in 1957,
to our present location at Powderham on the west bank of the River Exe,
where we have all the facilities expected by keen small boat sailors.
There are excellent changing rooms and showers, plus launching and berthing
facilities for sailing dinghies and catamarans. Whilst our site is totally
private, including our own car park, the main advantage of the location
is it fronts a picturesque quiet and uncluttered wide stretch of the
river where excellent sailing can be enjoyed.
The Club operates all the year around when, during the winter months,
we welcome members of other clubs to race in our winter and frostbite
series. Whilst primarily a dinghy/catamaran club, a few
members do own small sailing cruisers which occupy moorings off the
Club, and facilities are provided to these members for the storage
of tenders and outboard motors. There is no waiting list for membership
so we welcome enquiries. Better still why not pay us a visit on a
race day and witness the friendly atmosphere for yourself.
