I was slightly trepidatious when Aidan announced that we were to attend a canoeing course at SYC. The day arrived and we packed up our canoe with all our equipment (in the Whiteley household this usually means everything apart from the kitchen sink!). When we arrived we met Tony Kearsey who by default had decided to attend the course too. Rob (the trainer) arrived and was very friendly and obviously loved everything about canoes and being on the water. Rob checked our canoe - all the equipment passed his inspection.

There was a great turnout for the first Nautical Natters talk of 2017!   Mike Johnson, the RYA’s SW Regional Race Management Co-ordinator, talked us through all the key changes to the Racing Rules of Sailing for 2017-2020.  Many changes are for clarification but one important change concerns Tacking in the Zone (Rule 18.3).  There were other changes too, so beware those members racing who are now boned up on the new rules!

The next Nautical Natters is by the RNLI on Coastal Safety – a must for all of us and our families – on Thursday 11th May at 7.30pm.   And you’ll be able to have your lifejacket checked too!
