Starcross Yacht Club

Welcome to the Starcross Yacht Club web site

Starcross Yacht Club is reputed to be one of the oldest sailing clubs in the British Isles, having been loosely formed to organise a sailing regatta all the way back in 1772. However, it is now a thoroughly go-ahead, modern and informal family club devoted to the pursuit of small boat sailing.  Originally situated in Starcross village, since 1957 the club has been based at our present location at Powderham Point on the west bank of the Exe Estuary, where we have all the facilities expected by keen sailors. There are excellent changing rooms and showers, plus launching and berthing facilities for sailing dinghies and catamarans.

Bart's Bash - 21st September

You can now register for Bart's Bash via the 'OPENS' tab above. What are you waiting for?!

As part of the global phenomenon that is Bart's Bash, on 21st September 2014, Starcross Yacht Club will be holding a special handicap event with the first start scheduled for 1630 hrs. There will be separate starts for monohulls, multihulls and juniors and entry will be by donation to the Bart's Bash charity.

This is an ideal opportunity for those of you who are interested in having a go at racing but don't want to take it too seriously, to dip your toe in the water of competition, all in a good cause.

Let's try to get as many boats on the water as possible for this very worthwhile event. We hope that, just to make it a bit more interesting, we will be able to rustle-up some prizes as well! All we need now is one of those balmy late-summer evenings...and some wind!

Please see the accompanying document that gives all the details you need to register for the event or click on the poster below.

For the very latest SYC specific details see the this SYC forum post.

Working party - 27th September

There's a working party on the SYC calendar for Saturday 27th September starting at 10:00. While nominally for those who partake of yacht cruising everyone is, of course, very welcome. The tasks and more details are on the poster but it is fair to say that "shingle shovelling" may feature predominantly so bring your wellies and wheel barrows.

f you feel like registering, then it will help to gauge the number of free "thank you" lunches that need to be provided but do feel free to just turn up on the day.

If you've no idea what's involved in an SYC working party here's a few photos from a previous one.
