Starcross Yacht Club

Welcome to the Starcross Yacht Club web site

Starcross Yacht Club is reputed to be one of the oldest sailing clubs in the British Isles, having been loosely formed to organise a sailing regatta all the way back in 1772. However, it is now a thoroughly go-ahead, modern and informal family club devoted to the pursuit of small boat sailing.  Originally situated in Starcross village, since 1957 the club has been based at our present location at Powderham Point on the west bank of the Exe Estuary, where we have all the facilities expected by keen sailors. There are excellent changing rooms and showers, plus launching and berthing facilities for sailing dinghies and catamarans.

Pre-Christmas Working Party - Sunday 7th December

The club has survived its first autumn storm, although flooded at one point the newly installed drainage system coped admirably, draining the south boat park on the same outgoing tide.  Much of the flotsam was soon cleared from site, but the inevitable foreshore shingle has reappeared and potholes on the approach road are not shrinking!  There are other more lightweight task as well.

With no race possible it is proposed to run a pre-Christmas working party – the usual format; start around 10.00hrs, work, coffee, tea and donuts mince pies, work, all finished off with lunch.  So a good training morning instead of the usual Sunday race, or just come along and meet old friends and reminisce about this year’s sailing adventures, all welcome.

Please see this page where you can indicate your availability, or let Graham Buxton-Smith know you can attend.

We look forward to seeing you at the club.
