Welcome to the Starcross Yacht Club web site

Starcross Yacht Club is reputed to be one of the oldest sailing clubs in the British Isles, having been loosely formed to organise a sailing regatta all the way back in 1772. However, it is now a thoroughly go-ahead, modern and informal family club devoted to the pursuit of small boat sailing.  Originally situated in Starcross village, since 1957 the club has been based at our present location at Powderham Point on the west bank of the Exe Estuary, where we have all the facilities expected by keen sailors. There are excellent changing rooms and showers, plus launching and berthing facilities for sailing dinghies and catamarans.

Hurricane 5.9 Inland National Champions 2015 Doug Smith and Jamie King

SYC members Doug Smith and Jamie King have returned from Rutland Water having achieved the accolade of Hurricane 5.9 Inland National Champions.  Sailing in at times gusty conditions Doug and Jamie fought off strong completion throughout the weekend of 16th and 17th May.  The pair held off the other 11 boats in a competition which was finally sealed when the then winning boat capsized in the final race of the series allowing the guys to slip into 1st place.

Consistently within the top 4 placings over the 2 day competition, achieving two 1st, two 2nd and two 4th gave the Champions a total score of 14, with the second crew managing 26.

The SYC Cat fleet is in awe of their achievement which is well deserved as we have witnessed weekend after weekend Doug and Jamie turning out at Starcross, slowly rising up the ranking and becoming a formidable duo, not only on the Exe, but now at National level.

Well done to you both and congratulations from all at Starcross YC – a credit to the club.

Kit for Clubs Voucher Scheme

Read on for a great deal...

SYC has just signed up to AS Watersports 'Kit for Clubs Voucher Scheme' and here's how it works;  every time you shop in AS Watersports, as a Starcross club member, YOU get a discount on your purchase AND the club gets a voucher!  For every £10 you spend, you will be given a voucher and when you are next in the clubhouse, just drop them into the voucher box. The club saves up the vouchers and can redeem them to get free kit for the club.

Neat isn't it?

As well as kayaks, canoes and all conceivable kayak kit, AS Watersports stock sailing gear too.... Visit the shop at Haven Road, Exeter - parking is close by and coffee shops to hand. Tel: 01392 219600
