Starcross Yacht Club

Welcome to the Starcross Yacht Club web site

Starcross Yacht Club is reputed to be one of the oldest sailing clubs in the British Isles, having been loosely formed to organise a sailing regatta all the way back in 1772. However, it is now a thoroughly go-ahead, modern and informal family club devoted to the pursuit of small boat sailing.  Originally situated in Starcross village, since 1957 the club has been based at our present location at Powderham Point on the west bank of the Exe Estuary, where we have all the facilities expected by keen sailors. There are excellent changing rooms and showers, plus launching and berthing facilities for sailing dinghies and catamarans.

Note: IT IS OBLIGATORY THAT 2013 BERTH STICKERS ARE DISPLAYED ON ALL BOATS!

It is a condition of granting a boat a berth that the current year sticker is displayed on masts, or transoms in the case of Lasers, Toppers, Picos etc.. and certainly not discretionary.  Boats that do not display a 2013 berth sticker by the 20th May may be removed to the far north area of the dinghy park (the area with low branches which has a habit of interfering with masts)!

Berth Charts are divided into two parts:

  • North Map - the area to the north of the railway access tunnel (Berths 164 - 290) - DOWNLOAD
  • South Map - the area to the south of the tunnel (Berths 1 - 163 and above 300) - DOWNLOAD
Please ensure that you put your berth sticker on and move your boat to the allotted space as soon as possible.  If you have any queries please email me.

Starcross seal and round Britain cruise

Seal

Spotted on the SYC slipway by Peter Schranz last Wednesday afternoon (4th April). I am reliably informed its name is Cyril. You can click on the image for a larger photo.

Round Britain Cruise

When not photographing seals, Peter Schranz has been planning a cruise around the UK in his Sadler 26. Weather permitting, the cruise will be starting fairly soon. Peter has a website he'll be updating with details of his progress. You can also get to this from the "Cruising" menu item of this website.

Some SYC members will be aware of the work that Peter does with the Impact Foundation (Peter gave an illustrated talk at SYC fairly recently on his trips to Bangladesh). You can find out more by following the links from Peter's website.
