K-Zee Zydeco Band

Never heard of Zydeco music? All you need to know is that your dancing shoes will be required. For the curious, the following is taken from Wikipedia...

Zydeco (French: "les haricots" or "le zaricot", English: "green beans" or "snap beans") is a form of American roots or folk music. It evolved in southwest Louisiana in the early 19th century from forms of Creole music. The rural black Creoles of southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas still sing in Louisiana Creole French.

Usually fast tempo and dominated by the button or piano accordion and a form of a washboard known as a "rub-board," "scrub-board," or frottoir, zydeco music was originally created at house dances, where families and friends gathered for socializing.

Later it moved to rural dance halls and nightclubs. As a result, the music integrated waltzes, shuffles, two-steps, blues, rock and roll, and most dance music forms of the era. Today, the tradition of change and evolution in the music continues. It stays current while integrating even more genres such as R&B, soul, brass band, reggae, urban hip, ska, rock, Afro-Caribbean and other styles, in addition to the traditional forms.

Scottwhat It Takes

This jazz band has a versatile line up, adpating to the requirements of the occasion. There will be four of them at the Summer Ball, and the picture on the left shows is our best guess as to who will be there! (Dodgy looking bunch but then that's what a jazz band should be.)

The band plays a variety of styles of music, but for the most part they are interested in playing the great jazz songs of the Twentieth Century. From early dance band music in the Twenties, through the Golden era of the Thirties, including their fascination with the Gypsy Swing popularised by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelly, into the Swinging Forties, the wild scat and be-bop of the Fifties.

Recently they have been including more Latin and African jazz numbers as they continue to explore the vast repertoire of music available.

At the Summer Ball they will be the ideal accompaniment to the buffet.
