Faults with the SYC web cam or weather station

E-mail Print PDF

Both the web camera and the weather station at Starcross Yacht Club are really quite reliable. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the equipment they are attached to! With depressing regularity, either the web cam or the weather station (or more usually both) are out of action when accessed from the SYC web site.

The reasons for this typically include

  • the router losing connection to the internet (this is by far and away the biggest cause)
  • the computer the web cam or weather station is attached to is turned off

To try to reduce the amount of time the web cam or weather station is "off air" we have put the router on a timer which will briefly power it off and then back on again in the early hours of the morning. The expectation is that the router will "pick up" the broadband connection after this re-boot.

Therefore, if you find that the web cam or the weather station is not working, please can you wait until the next morning to see if it is still "off air". If it still is, please can you post an entry to this web forum topic so we know to look at it. If it is not working on a race day, you could try ringing the club and asking for the router to be turned off and on again.
