At Starcross you’ll find sailors from the RS400 fleet out every weekend of the year such is the enjoyment to be had from sailing one of these fine boats.  Fast, comfortable and easy to sail, they really are a superb boat and sailors in the fleet are more than happy to take anyone thinking of buying one out for a sail.  Contact one of us below for more information:

Hurricane 5.9 Std and SX

E-mail Print PDF

The Hurricane Fleet at SYC started back in 1994. We currently have 12 boats at the club - most of which race regularly throughout the year.  Racing is extremely competitive and close on the water, with the fleet having crews who are past and present National and European H5.9 Std Champions normally at or near the front of the action.

B14 Fleet

E-mail Print PDF

The B14 is unique in the world of skiff sailing – the fastest (non-foiling) ‘body-swung’ sailing boat in the world. It is a scaled-down 18 foot skiff that delivers exhilarating sailing, in a simple, one-design, low-cost format. Hiking from the wide wings, blasting along at 20 knots with over 50 sq m of downwind sail area is like nothing else in the world – and while it is challenging it can be mastered by weekend club sailors with a little effort.

The B14 hull is light (62 kgs) and sheet loads are low enabling several mixed crews to be competitive at the top of the international fleet. In common with most modern skiffs it is relatively insensitive to weight and at the last World championships the top 5 boats had combined crew weights ranging from 21 stone to 26 stone. Success comes from finesse and agility – not brute strength or weight.

Wayfarers

E-mail Print PDF

Like most sailing clubs, Wayfarers are to be found scattered around the dinghy park in various marks or models. The waters here provide excellent opportunity for cruising the estuary, and into the open sea, as well as for family pottering and teaching, all of these activities being ideally suited to, and used by, club Wayfarers

RS200

E-mail Print PDF

The RS200 is one of the preferred classes at SYC and currently is the most popular two-person boat at Starcross with around 20 boats.  We have our own start on windward/leeward courses and good racing throughout the fleet from beginners to rock-stars.

Responding to finesse rather than physique, the RS200 allows parents, teenagers, couples and friends to share the excitement of asymmetric sailing.

If you would like to go for a trial sail then I would be happy to lend my boat, either before or after a race day or on a free sailing day.

Mark Elkington - RS200 Fleet Captain - please email me via the fleet captains contact page.
