Who is this for?
Members already holding a MCA/RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate wanting to refresh their VHF radio skills and update their knowledge
The RYA/MCA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. Unnecessary transmissions could block out a Mayday distress call.
This course will cover all the procedures for using VHF equipment but does not include the exam for the Operator’s Licence. By the end of this course you will have refreshed your skills to use VHF DSC equipment and understand all current requirements. Please note that if you hold the 'old' VHF licence (pre-1999) you will need to upgrade your qualification by taking the exam course if you purchase new equipment or want to use DSC equipment.
