What a great day we had yesterday, with weather and turnout!

One incident marred the day for Mike Arstall, who skidded on the ice and turned his car over on the approach road to the Club. I spoke to him yesterday evening and he sounded his usual chipper self. He has just sent a message to say he had a good night and wishes to thank everyone who helped him yesterday. He is very grateful and says he will show anyone who wants see his array of 25 stitches, but by appointment only. Get well soon, Mike.

96 boats entered for this epic pursuit race and there were no incidents on the water.  Garnett Showell's photos

With the loan of three safety boats from Lympstone Sailing Club the area was well covered, and they joined in the efforts to retrieve boats drifting on the tide after the wind dropped. Visitors attended from as far away as Whitstable in Kent and Birmingham.

A worthy 6th place to Figgy and Barney

Overall winners are Mike and Jane Calvert in Merlin Rocket 3691, from Axe Sailing Club. First Junior was Elliot Toms in an RS Aero 7, from Fowey Gallants S C. Richard Cain was 6th overall for SYC. Grahame Forshaw, the Exe Harbourmaster, presented the prizes on behalf of Exe Sails, the event sponsor. Full results will be published on the website as they become available.

Finally a huge thank you to everyone who organised and managed the event. John Donovan is standing back after 16 events as Principal Race Officer so that Ben Cutler-Sharpe can take over. Tim Coombe remains as Assistant Race Officer. The Hurricane Fleet carried out many other duties either in the Race Box or with vehicle, trailer and boat marshalling.

In the Clubhouse Sailing Southwest organised and recorded the Trace Ace tracking devices to help get the results together.

The Galley Team, led by Kathy Jones, cooked and baked all day Saturday and served great food with her team of friends and helpers. Derek Hathaway and his wife Ruth served drinks and collected money all day, so thanks to them too.

Indeed, thanks to everyone who made this a great SYC day. If you took any photos, please enter the photo competition detailed on the Members' Page.
