Warning - SYC Gate. was created by Alistair Glen
Dear All

The magnet that holds the front gate (not that we have a rear gate!) open is not currently functioning. When the gate releases it is necessary to place the bollard, adjacent to the defective magnet, in front of the gate to stop it closing on you. Somebody today almost got a gate on the front bumper so beware.

The gate seemed OK this evening.

The gate must be fully locked before the card is applied. Then opening the gate fully will cause the gate to be held by the magnet.
If it i snot locked shut and the gate is opened, the magnet does not function.

Must be an intermittent fault then as it was doing the same thing a couple of Wednesdays ago.

This may not be the issue, but I have noticed in the past that if you don't push the gate against the magnet softly and it bounces back even slightly then the contact is broken and you have to start again. When the gate approaches the magnet push gently but firmly!

The following always works for me if the (open) magnet is not working (and I have come across it propped open several times recently)
- close gate
- use card to open gate and open until it connects to the magnet
- if it is a race day go to the box on the left wall in the tunnel and click the (green) "lock gate open" button.

The gate does often fail to shut if the wind has any easterly in it - and if it fails to shut then the magnet won't work until you shut it and then re-open it.

Yesterday evening the gate when we arrived the gate was locked shut with the 'gate closing' signs flashing. Repeated locking and unlocking of the gate didn't activate the 'holding' magnet. When we left, after dusk, the gate was operating normally with magnets and flashing signs working as intended.
