Social Activities At SYC
SYC’s social calendar comprises a formal Dinner Dance and Prizegiving in February and two very informal supper parties in April and October. Some years we have a summer party as well, perhaps coinciding with the club’s Open Day or as part of our hosting of the River Exe Regatta (we are hosts every fourth year). Dinghy hire at SYC
Starcross Yacht Club has a small fleet of dinghies available for hire by current Starcross Yacht Club members. Whether you just fancy trying a different boat or don't sail often enough to warrant keeping your own boat in the dinghy park, you may want to use the SYC hire boats. For more details of the available boats and the very reasonable charges, please see here.
Kayaks and Canoes at Starcross Yacht Club
Primarily a sailing club, Kayaks and canoes are also very welcome at SYC. Kayaks are great when there is little or no wind - or maybe you just prefer the idea of paddling to sailing.
The Exe Estuary is a good place to paddle and offers different opportunities and challenges to those of rivers and open sea. Situated half way up the estuary, SYC is ideally placed for exploring both the estuary's upper and lower reaches with easy launching from our own shore and slipway. For family fun and younger children there is plenty of water and space to paddle close to the club and its facilities.
Kayaks can be stored at the club all year round and there is the added bonus of changing rooms close to hand that are accessible at all times, and a pleasant location with great views in which to relax after your paddle.
Whether you are a seasoned paddler or new to the sport, we'd love to meet you!
Cycling at Starcross Yacht Club
While some may not consider it a water sport, the SYC Commodore organises informal cycle rides from SYC. A favourite is to meet at SYC and then cycle round the estuary to Exmouth catching the Exmouth to Starcross ferry on the way back. For more details, contact the SYC commodore.
Training at Starcross Yacht Club
SYC has its own Training Officer, who organises courses or can put you in touch with an organisation offering the course you seek.
For more information, please see the Training Overview page.
