SYC Anemometers

View wind information from the anemometers at SYC.

The anemometer on the mast at SYC is an Ecowitt ultrasonic device. It will be attached high up on the mast in front of the race box. In the short term, while "debugging", it will be mounted lower down.

This anemometer is great for winds from the north round through the east and down to just east of south but will under read significantly for winds with any west in them because of the "wind shadow" from nearby trees. Because it will be mounted higher, it may be better than the washdown area anemometer for winds from the west but please do remember it will still under read compared to the westerly winds likely to be encountered further out on the water.

The washdown area anemometer at SYC is a rather posh Gill Ultrasonic device. It is attached to a pole on the railings of the washdown area at SYC. It is currently a "work in progress" and will display 0 knots, 360 degrees and a red status icon when it it offline.

When online, this anemometer is great for winds from the north, through the east and round to the south but under reads significantly for winds with any west in them due to the "wind shadow" of nearby trees. It measures more accurately than the mast anemometer but the "wind shadow" effect is more important. Please remember it will under report westerly winds compared to those likely to be encountered further out on the water.
