The self-closing mechanism on the Club main entrance gate is being upgraded after 7 years' daily use. A new clamp magnet has replaced the badly corroded one outside the gate. The magnet is now positioned above ground level to keep it well out of water run-off from the car park which can sometimes create a large pool in the tunnel and back up the entrance slope.
There have been incidents in the past where people have tried to pull the gate off the magnet clamp instead of using the electrical controls provided. If this action is carried out with the new mount, there could well be damage caused to the magnet mount or the gate. The magnet has a clamping force of 340Kg.
A sign warning of the potential damage is attached to the gate and is clearly legible when the gate is open.
If you wish to close the gate when entering the Club before the electronic 90 second timer activates, press the “PUSH TO CLOSE” button halfway down the tunnel. This can be operated from a vehicle quite safely.
If you wish to close the gate on exiting the Club and the Controller indicates “GATE LOCKED OPEN”, press the white button labelled “PUSH TO CLOSE” (arrowed) and the gate will begin closing 30 seconds later.
With the next phase of control upgrade in May, the “PUSH TO CLOSE” buttons will be linked for dual operation.
