RYA/MCA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC)

SYC is an RYA approved dinghy and power boat training centre

Who is this for?
Members needing to operate VHF and VHF Digital selective Calling (DSC) equipment using public channels

Course outline
The RYA/MCA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels.  If you hold the 'old' VHF licence (pre-1999) you need to upgrade your qualification if you purchase new equipment or want to use DSC equipment.
A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. Unnecessary transmissions could block out a Mayday distress call.  This course will cover all the procedures for using VHF equipment and includes a written and practical assessment if you require the Operator’s Licence.  By the end of this course you will have the skills to use VHF DSC equipment and hold the Operator’s Licence required by law subject to successfully passing the exam.

Participant numbers are limited to 12 per course.

The course fee will cover the cost of the instructor and course notes. There is a separate exam fee of £70 payable to the RYA online.
