Awarded to the sailor who has shown the greatest achievements outside of the Club, the George Eaton Junior shield has this year been awarded to Amélie Ballantyne. Amélie's sailing has progressed hugely in the last year, including highlights of being selected for the Topper Regional Training Group, coming 1st Girl in the South West ITCA Traveller Series, and coming 2nd Girl at the Eric Twiname regatta at Rutland.
As well as representing SYC at regional and national sailing events, Amélie is a prominent ambassador for sustainability and female sailors. This has been recognised by her being named as a Team Rider for Rooster and Optimum Time, and sponsored by GOAT and Allen Brothers. She is also an All at Sea columnist, a Clean Sailors ambassador and has led SYC's recent efforts on recycling of old sails.
This is a very well deserved win, and recognises all of the hard work and effort Amélie has put into her sailing over the last year.
The Shield was presented by Catrin Williams, British Sailing Squad sailor.
