Congratulations to Commodore Simon Greenslade and his wife Phillipa on a most memorable 2026 Commodore's Cruise, enjoyed by a large convoy of SYC sailors of all ages on 13 June.
In the spirit of SYC dinghy cruises, the Commodore's Cruise consists of a relaxed and sedate sail in company followed by a brief wait for the tide to turn before returning to the Club.

By longstanding tradition, the SYC Commodore's Cruise is to the back beach of Dawlish Warren, where sailors enjoy strawberries and cream provided by the Commodore on the Warren's steeply shelving golden sands. Adverse weather in some recent years has forced cancellation or sundry reconfigurations of the usual routine, but this year the weather brought us a Commodore's Cruise to remember, with just a few minutes' flat calm on the return journey followed by a couple of fluky gusts to remind us to take nothing for granted on the Exe Estuary.

An innovation for 2026 was Junior involvement, giving the event a family atmosphere. Younger Juniors joined the convoy in two of the Club's Comet Trios helmed by parents, accompanied by a few Topper, Tera and Laser sailors helming their own boats. And of course there was a sandcastle-building competition to make the most of the Warren's golden sand.
Many thanks to Simon, Phillipa and all the helpers, including Jeremy and Marija Lees on safety boat, Chief Dinghy Instructor Jane Hill and Junior leaders and parents.
