    ILCA4s well up the fleet

Starcross ILCA Open Meeting, 30 August

This year's Open was quite exciting from the start - the forecast had put off the other classes and we hardy ILCA sailors were chomping at the bit to 'strut our stuff' on the water!
The fleets were started together but separated out for the results into their respective rig sizes.

It started with a reasonable breeze for the first race and dropped off to a weaker wind for the middle part of the race but getting stronger at the end.
Race 2 was sailed in stronger winds and the course was cleverly 'tightened' in race 3 when the wind really got up. The 'officials' did a  great job of tweaking the course to the wind which resulted in fantastic reaches being had and a few spills into the drink!

The ILCA 4's had close racing in race 1 with Jemima Ryles from Wimbleball just pipping Amélie Ballantyne from Starcross (SYC) at the line followed by Jake Brian from Plym in 3rd.
In race 2 and 3 Amélie got into her stride and got the winner's gun in both races, with Ime Hill (SYC) getting 2nd and 3rd respectively. Jake Brian did the reverse and had 3rd and 2nd.

The ILCA 6's had a close race with Dave Binding (SYC) winning quite convincingly followed by Michael Bagge (SYC) and Helen Scott from Lympstone who was catching up quickly!
Race 2 was well won by Theo Whiter (SYC) followed by Dave Binding and then Helen Scott, with race 3 again won convincingly by Theo Whiter with a great result from Huw Beare (SYC) in 2nd and Michael Bagge 3rd. Youth over experience seemed to prevail!

The ILCA 7's had Dave Matthews (SYC) sailing a horizon job to get a bullet in race 1. He was followed by Richard Bradshaw from Shoreham and Andy Hohl (SYC) in 3rd.
Race 2 was won again by Dave Matthews followed by Richard Bradshaw and Andy Hohl with the results of the top two reversed in race 3.

I would like to thank all our visitors who had travelled from afar to race and I think that the format worked well for the different rigs. So we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
