Course outline
This course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers. The course includes using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and topics specific to boating such as the recovery position in a confined space, CPR, including the drowning protocol, cold shock and hypothermia from immersion and/or exposure, seasickness and dehydration, medical assistance or advice by VHF and helicopter rescue. By the end of this course you will have the skills to deal with a broad range of medical emergencies you may encounter afloat. The RYA First Aid certificate is valid for three years.
This course is offered on a regular basis, usually during the winter months. Register your interest with the Training Officer, who will then get in touch with you when a course is planned.Vacancies: the number of places per course is limited to 12 because of the large amount of practical involvement required of participants, but any vacancies will usually be advertised on the Forum.
