John Baker

On Saturday I learned that John Baker passed away after a short illness at the grand age of 98. John had been an avid sailor of Mayflies and then Seaflies. He involved himself in many activities at SYC and, in the words of his son Tim, held every post except Treasurer at one time or another. His name is to be found on the transoms in the Clubhouse stating he was Commodore in 1973 and 1974. He taught Tim to sail at SYC, and Tim now sails a cruising boat out of Plymouth. Below is a photo of John, provided by Paul Kelley, showing John launching the Club's orange RIB in 2005 in the traditional manner. I have expressed our condolences to Tim and his mother, Pat Baker.
