Seal on slipway was created by Aidan Whiteley
At the time of writing (16:00 on Tuesday) there has been a young seal on the slipway at SYC for several hours - seemingly unperturbed by people on the foreshore. There is a concern that it is injured and a British Divers Marine Life Rescue team are attending.

Hopefully it is OK but probably best not to shoo it off the slipway if it is there.

Latest from "seal cam". The seal came back about 17:15 today after having spent the last 36 hours or so elsewhere.

The people from British Drivers Marine Life Rescue have a logon to our webcam and have had a look today. They think his right flipper might be troubling him but that he is looking pretty well in himself.

So glad to hear the experts think the seal is probably ok - as to my naive eye, he appeared to be struggling/nervous on the slipway for hours last night
        - maybe he's webcam shy!

Hello All.  On Thursday Julian came back from the Bimblers and Fettlers and said that the seal had been on the slipway most of the day and wondered if this was normal for a young seal.  We hadn't picked up on the forum information so got in touch with the Brixham Seal Project and spoke to Sarah who also looked at the webcam images and felt that the seal was ok, just resting in a safe place.  She also said that they can identify seals from patterns of markings, log these on a database and then track the movements of specific seals around the country.  I took the liberty of sending her the photos from the forum - I do hope that's ok?  She said that the more photos of an individual seal they have, the easier it is to identify and respond if there are any concerns. If anyone else has some photos and would like to send them to the Seal Project, she would be very grateful. Here's the link:-  www.thesealproject.co.uk/
I feel very honoured to have a young seal lounging around on our slipway and hope he/she visits us again!  The images on the webcam are amazingly clear and the night-time images are astonishingly detailed!  Well done to everyone who has been involved with setting up the system. It was a much more interesting evening's entertainment than what was on tv.
