Some news. After  more than 15 years of both developing and administering the raceManager software at SYC I have stepped down from the administration role. I plan to continue to develop the software, responding to requests from the general committee and sailing committee - and with hopefully more spare time I will be able to make better progress on the backlog of requests.

As I will no longer be doing any of the necessary administration on the system the Sailing Committee is looking for people to take over the first-line administration tasks - I will support these volunteers with initial training (via zoom or at the club) and helping them resolve the rare unusual issues (i.e providing second line support).

What this means is that I will no longer be the person to ask at the club if there is an issue with the racebox hardware or you have an issue with the results, or really any racemanager issue. It is important that as a club we get more people involved, so that I'm not the only one with the knowledge to run the system.  I'm not going to be able to climb into a wet suit to go racing for many more years - so now is the time to make this change.

The Sailing Committee has found a couple of volunteers who will take over various roles, but they still need one or two more. It is absolutely not necessary to understand how the software works - if you currently use online banking, book tickets online, or shop online - you already have all the skills necessary. Even better - its a relatively easy way to help the club - you don't need to attend any meetings, none of the individual tasks take very long to do (typically less than an hour), you can do everything from your PC/laptop at home (or wherever you happen to be), and I'll be there to provide help if you need it.

Here is a typical example of one job that needs doing soon. We need to submit the annual  PY returns to the RYA in the next 3 weeks. This data feeds into next year's published PY numbers. I have written software that I have used for the last 10 years to submit the data.  The software produces the required data files in a couple of minutes, and those files then need to be uploaded to RYA's PYonline system. That's all there is to it. There are a number of these sort of jobs to keep our race management system running. If you think you could help out - please get in touch with Simon Greenslade or respond to this post.

regards

Mark

Hi Mark,Sorry to hear you're moving on. I've only recently joined the club but I'm a software engineering manager by day so would be happy to help. Give me a WhatsApp/call on 07850410011 and we can discuss what's involved.
Best regards,Beau
