Mike Baker - Hurricane and N12 sailor

I have the sad duty to inform everyone that Mike Baker (previous owner of the orange Hurricane raced regularly at SYC) was hit by a vehicle while out walking near his home in Sidford and died yesterday.
Mike hadn't sailed for a couple of years but many at SYC will remember him as a keen cat racer, Junior coach and cheerful presence around the club.

I am really so very very sorry to learn such awful and incredibly sad news !

Mike always really enjoyed his sailing up until his health concern . He was a really nice, unassuming person with absolutely no agenda . I remember chatting with him and he was someone who was always pleasant polite and courteous . He really was one of the nice guys ! 

It is a very sad thought that we will not to see him at the club again and I am undoubtedly sure there will be many feeling the same . 

My sincere and heartfelt felt condolences to his family .

That is sad. Mike was flag captain for several years and stalwart of the junior sailing from 2005-2012ish

This is very sad news. Mike was a popular member of the club for many years.

Oh so sad and such a terrible blow for his family and all who knew him. As others have said, Mike was a very thoughtful and gentle person.

Further to the request made by Vyv Game at the AGM, please an you email [email protected] if you intend to come to Mike's Funeral on Friday 19th December at 2pm at the East Devon Crematorium. Jane, Mike's wife, has asked that I forward the number of SYC attendees for her planning for the wake.

I was so sorry to see last Saturday the string of posts about Mike Baker’s death after his long illness. Like many, Maggie and I have known him and the family well from our early Hurricane days onward, and we thoroughly endorse all the kind things that have already been said about him in this thread; particularly those relating to all he put into the club over the years. Basil I’ll e-mail you separately re the funeral arrangements.
