Hi Paul, I’m a new member to the club. I hope you don’t mind me contacting you. I have a dinghy (a wooden Bantham boat) and not much sailing experience! I’m keen to learn and I’m thinking of booking a session with Exe Sail who will come and give me instruction on my boat. How would this work with the club please? Would I have to organise it for a day when there is a water sports session or can I just pick a day and time (and tide) to suit me?
Also, is there a WhatsApp group I could be added to, so that I can be in touch with other dinghy sailers?
    Many thanks for your help!
    Kind regards
    Ali Howell

Hi Ali, can I firstly offer you a very warm and friendly welcome to the club !

I am delighted to hear from you and am glad to learn that you are keen to learn how to sail . I believe there maybe concerns surrounding safety and insurance, if you receive instruction from an outside source, launching from the club but that the club does now offer internal instruction, to which I have attached a direct link to the club’s training page, which is lead by our Training Officer, John Allen . I am sure John will assuredly be and indeed, equally pleased to hear from you and happy to assist you in helping you find the best and most appropriate direction in which to support you in learning to sail . Pleased to refer the club’s training page via this link, which I think you will find very useful . www.starcrossyc.org.uk/intro-training

The club does have a dedicated Dinghy Cruise Section and community of like minded sailors, led by Mike Arstnell and Rod Freer, who will undoubtedly welcome you aboard and be happy to support you too . The DCS also has programmed cruises ( listed on the club’s sailing programme ) and does have a dedicated WhatsApp group, which you may like to join . Pleased to refer to the DCS and leisure sailing web page via the attached link, which has a lot of very useful information to refer to - www.starcrossyc.org.uk/sailing/dinghy-cruising

I very much look forward to meeting you in the, I hope, very near future, with the absolute certainty you will enjoy your membership of the club and in learning to sail . I would indeed be more than happy to discuss anything further with you and so pleased to give a call or email me via my contacts as indicated below or speak with any club officer or member - we will all be happy to guide and support you !
