SYC has become one of the first sailing clubs in the country to be awarded the new British Sailing Pathway Club status by the RYA. A part of the RYA's Pathway Review of junior and youth sailing, the Pathway Club initiative aims to develop and support race coaching at local clubs.
This award recognises the achievements of SYC, a club with an already thriving Junior Section which has more than 50 young people sailing regularly, but more importantly it provides very welcome support to help take race coaching to the next level.
The SYC Junior Section has strong fleets of RS Teras and Toppers, as well as growing numbers of Fevas and ILCAs. The Club is an RYA Recognised Training Centre running Friday evening junior training sessions and a full programme of junior and youth race training. An annual four-day SYC Junior Regatta and opportunities for young sailors to join in SYC's friendly and competitive club races aim to make the transition to adult racing as seamless as possible.
