Starcross Yacht Club is reputed to be one of the oldest sailing clubs in the British Isles, having been loosely formed to organise a sailing regatta all the way back in 1772. However, it is now a thoroughly go-ahead, modern and informal family club devoted to the pursuit of small boat sailing. Originally situated in Starcross village, since 1957 the club has been based at our present location at Powderham Point on the west bank of the Exe Estuary, where we have all the facilities expected by keen sailors. There are excellent changing rooms and showers, plus launching and berthing facilities for sailing dinghies and catamarans.
Whilst our site is secluded, private and relatively secure, including our own car park, perhaps the main advantage of the location is that it fronts a picturesque, quiet and uncluttered wide stretch of the Estuary where excellent sailing can be enjoyed, whether it be full-on competitive racing or quiet cruising.

SYC is an RYA-affiliated club and accredited RYA Training Centre, offering certain adult and junior RYA qualifications.
Starcross Yacht Club aims to offer its members a very full programme of events. Please browse our extensive programme to get a feel for what is on offer.
The Club operates all year round. During the winter months, we welcome members of other clubs to race in our winter and frostbite series. Whilst primarily a dinghy and catamaran club, we do have a fair number of members who own small sailing cruisers which occupy moorings off the Club, and facilities are provided to these members for the storage of tenders and outboard motors. There is no waiting list for membership so we welcome inquiries. Better still, why not pay us a visit on a race day and experience the vibrant and friendly atmosphere for yourself. On the weekend of 26-27 October, SYC hosted 50 young sailors for the first of the 2024-25 season's SWYSA Winter Race Training events.  With visitors from ten clubs spread through the South West, the RS Tera and Topper Squads trained on Saturday, and RS Feva and ILCA Squads on Sunday. It was great to see so many boats out at the Club, and

A few years back, the Starcross Yacht Club website had a fairly popular "weekly forum digest" email that members could sign up for. You'd get a summary of posts to all the SYC forum categories you were interested in, in your email inbox once a week. Unfortunately, the functionality had to be "pulled" from the site as it had a few too many bugs.
